Fashion
comes in many styles to suit a wide variety of needs.
More and
more frequently Art intrudes into the world of fashion and we often
describe it as ‘wearable art’ when this occurs. The product seems
to become a channel through which to express art – rather than a
product with a high level of usage. In other words, it is no longer
the importance of the shoes to protect the feet, but rather the
shoe becomes a statement of creativity.
This
wearable art can be seen in such products as:-
*
Jewellery
* Scarves
*
Fabric
* Leather
accessories e.g. bags
*
Hats
*
Shoes
But the
true sense of Art (as in fine art) is seen when a painting appears
on a fashion garment. Fabric is one of the easiest mediums in which
to combine the fine art with the fashion. This fabric can be made
up into clothing or as accessories, such as scarves.
Is this
a painting - or could it appear on a scarf as wearable art? It is
in fact an award winning design for gift wrap. It began as a framed
silk painting under glass. It was photographed before selling and
that photograph was reproduced as a greeting card, gift tag and
gift wrap which won the 'Australian Gift of the Year Award' for
this category. |
